The Vampire Diaries 2.5 "Kill or be Killed" preview

Promo video for next week's episode!

Ian Somerhalder Dishes on Tonight's Episode

"Karma is kicking Damon in the ass right now," Ian laughs when asked if we are ever going to see his supersexy alter ego enjoy just an ounce of joy. "Damon happy is a very iffy thing. And right now he just feels silly and stupid."

"We're going to learn a lot about this werewolf thing in tonight's episode," Ian tells us of "Memory Lane." "Katherine is actually the one that explains a lot of what's going on. It's interesting to see where this whole thing came from in Mystic Falls—who knew about it [and] how vampires got involved. It's a very enlightening episode."

Also heading your way tonight is the crazy-good face-off between Katherine and Elena, which does not go well for one (or both!) of the ladies.

"Katherine's definitely not going to buy her flowers," laughs Ian. "She's going to kill Elena if she doesn't get what she wants, there's no two ways about it. Plus, Katherine can't kill Elena until Damon gets to at least sleep with her once!" Um, yes please!

"Damon learned a great deal that she is not the person you want to be in love with," the star reassures us. "She is the unobtainable woman that you don't want to obtain. But in a time of need, he can probably still be manipulated by her."

Ian Somerhalder Wants a Vampire Diaries Musical Episode

Ian talks about being a "Sexy Beast", about the dynamics of TVD set and answered the question: Would he consider doing a musical episode?

"I would do a musical episode in a heartbeat!" Ian exclaimed, then revealed that one of his fellow cast members has a hidden talent that would be perfect for a musical. "Zach Roerig [aka Matt] is a tap dancer," he said. "Who would've thought?"

So what would be Damon's go-to musical number?

"I don't know… Damon would be more like the barber of Fleet Street [a la "Sweeney Todd"]. He would be the guy who sings as he cuts people's arms off," he said matter-of-factly—which made us laugh out loud. "Full, Johnny Depp style."

Speaking of Johnny Depp and movies, would Ian consider doing more feature films?

"Well absolutely. Are you kidding? It will happen eventually," he said. "Right now this show is our focus, this is what we're doing. We're in the thick of it, and it's an amazing place to be... We have the best jobs ever and hopefully features come down the pike."

We mentioned that given his new "Sexy Beast" status, bestowed by Entertainment Weekly readers, the move scripts should be pouring in by now.

"I just walk around the set growling now," he joked, adding that he got "a lot" of hazing from his fellow cast members for that title. "That was pretty awesome," he said. "That was a trip."

Speaking of the on-set dynamics among the popular cast, Ian said that everyone gets along really well.

"Paul [Wesley] and I just pretty much make fun of each other all day," he said. "Nina [Dobrev] pretty much makes fun of the two of us all day."

Has this friendly banter led to any pet names or nicknames?

"We don’t necessarily have nicknames [for each other], if there are nicknames, they’re not very PG-13 or even 17... Yeah, I’ll leave those silent."

Katerina Graham in Nelly's new music video

For those of you who have seen the new music video for Nelly's incredible "Just a Dream," you may notice a familiar face in there playing the hip-hop singer's love interest. As a matter of fact, it is somebody who has made a career out of doing some singing on her own -- Katerina Graham.

Graham -- who is best known for playing witch Bonnie on "The Vampire Diaries" -- appears briefly in a number of the video's scenes as Nelly attempts to sort out his life. Fans of the actress probably also remember that she played a small part in Justin Bieber's "Somebody to Love" video, and has also covered Paula Abdul's "Cold-Hearted Snake" on her own.

Ian Somerhalder Talks Green Summit In D.C.

Somerhalder will meet with members of both houses of Congress to discuss the importance of green/alternative energy and technology. The actor has been vocal about the effects of the BP oil spill and recently partnered up with the portable energy company Go Green Mobile Power. When we caught up with him on the eve of his big trip, Somerhalder was brimming with excitement over getting to be a part of the conversation at a national level.

"It's really, really cool," he told MTV News about his participation in the summit. "I think there's a lot of anger and frustration and fear and determination in this exact moment in our country in the wake of this huge oil spill. But the government, they know enough to figure it out and they're taking steps to do that, so I'm really honored to be invited to go and speak with these people. I'll try not to screw up," he joked. "I can't wait to put my thinking cap on and get to Washington and have really structured and really inspiring conversations with people and hopefully something comes out of it."

As for his partnership with Go Green Mobile Power, Somerhalder said the company has generated much attention and he hopes to have one of their green-energy generators on the "Vampire Diaries" set soon.

"Warner Bros. [loves them] and the network are figuring out right now how to get that thing on set," he explained. "There has been a lot of interest from the city of Los Angeles, Mayor Villaraigosa; there's a lot going on. It's really exciting stuff, we're going to go full bore and get these things out there producing green power."

Paul Wesley meets the lighter side of Stefan

This is a new Paul interview with zap2it:

If "The Vampire Diaries" star Paul Wesley didn't sway you to Team Stefan with his video pitch, the Season 2 premiere might have done just that. It was clear as Stefan threatened Elena's Uncle John that he's let go of some of his reservations. Wesley tells Zap2it that the change in Stefan will become more obvious as the season continues.

"Last season, one of the main themes for Stefan was denying who he is," he says. "He was all, 'Who am I? What am I? I don't want to be a vampire.' In Season 2, he still thinks this is a curse, but he's accepted the circumstances and he's going to deal the deck of cards he's got."

Does this translate to less forehead brooding? "That's exactly right!" Wesley laughs. "Now he's going to accept it. For lack of a better term, Stefan is going to grow some balls and man up and stop thinking about everything so damn much. He's going to do the best he can to have moments to smile and moments to laugh, if not for him, then for Elena -- but mainly for him. He needs to have bright spots to be functioning."

Last season, it seemed that everyone had a friend but Stefan. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Alaric (Matthew Davis) had their reluctant bromance, and Elena (Nina Dobrev) had Bonnie and Caroline. Meanwhile, Stefan spent most of his time worrying about Damon. Wesley promises me that Stefan won't be so alone this year.

"I can't see Stefan ever having other romantic relationships," Wesley says, "but he'll definitely have some more platonic relationships in Season 2. I can say that for sure. We're going to expand his horizons a bit." When I mention the hint of friendship that emerged between Stefan and Matt (Zach Roerig) last season, Wesley says he expects that to continue to grow.

As an actor, Wesley looks forward to Stefan having some fun. "I welcomed the darkness last season, but I'm looking forward to Stefan lightening up on occasion. I mean, we're not going to all of a sudden make him Carrot Top, but he'll crack a smile more often."

I start to ask another question, but Wesley interrupts, "Though, toward the end of the season, I did start kind of looking like Carrot Top, didn't I? Huge hair."

Somerhalder and Dobrev have joked that Wesley's hair gets its own place on the call sheet. "I've been wearing my hair like this, ironically, my whole life," he says, grinning. "Even when I was 14, 15, 16 -- my hair has always been, well... up." He pats the top of his head, his hair still rising in perfect spikes since he's just finished shooting scenes with Dobrev.

Despite playing an eternal 17-year-old, Wesley recently turned 28. He's not worried about maintaining his youthful looks over the course of the series, though. "Stefan's style is going to change at some point," he says. "He hasn't always dressed like this or worn his hair like this, and he won't necessarily continue to. Plus, as Kevin Williamson pointed out, we've made incredible advancements in computer generated photography. I could play this out for a long time. But who knows, maybe he'll get a buzz cut or a mohawk. A mohawk would be cool... I'm not sure it'd be Stefan, but it'd be cool."

Wesley is open to exploring all sides of Stefan - even the side that may have worn a mohawk at some point. "I want to see all of the things he's experienced," he says, considering possible flashback episodes. "We got a flash of some of the things he's been through. We know he's seen evil, and that at some point he may have been evil. Maybe he was a rock-n-roller at some point, maybe at one point he was an actual legitimate businessman. We know he's gone to college. I think Stefan went out and experienced every single possible life and in the end, with everything he learned, he came back to the root of it, which is that he wants to be a good man and he wants to find pure, real love. The rest of it doesn't matter."

Right now, protecting that true love means that Stefan has to go toe-to-toe with his evil ex-girlfriend, Katherine.

"Stefan knows she's going to try to manipulate him, and to mess with Elena," Wesley says. "And he's going to do whatever it takes to keep Elena safe. That may mean some angry, brutal force. Some fighting is going to go down between Katherine and Stefan. If she tries to hurt Elena, hell yeah, there will be some serious beat-downs."

Katerina Graham: Bonnie "Will Do Something Unthinkable"

Here is a new interview of Kat Graham with TV Guide! A lot of new info!

TVGuide.com: How has Bonnie changed since the first season?
Katerina Graham: She's definitely a lot stronger and more empowered and less fearful. She started off as this timid sidekick and she's been through so much that she's really had to develop an inner strength. She's shot through the roof in terms of being more honest. There's a lot of guilt that if she would have said, "No, we're not [opening the tomb]; figure it out yourself," she would still have her grandmother.

TVGuide.com: Will Bonnie and Elena ever be as close as they once were?
Graham: I don't think the relationship with Bonnie and Elena will ever go back to the way it was. I think they can be friends and they can still be close, [but] it's different. We all have those friends we have serious problems with, but you know they would die for you.

TVGuide.com: Do you see the vampires and witches ever aligning?
Graham: For the benefit of a life, yeah. Just for the benefit of the vampires? No, I don't think Bonnie would do that.

TVGuide.com: What about Bonnie and Stefan or Damon?
Graham: I don't know if it's never going to happen, but I don't know about a friendship. They're going to have to work their asses off to get Bonnie to even like them. I think if it helped Elena, she would definitely work with them and I think that says a lot about Bonnie.

TVGuide.com: How does Bonnie take her anger out on Damon in the second episode?
Graham: She keeps her promise, I will say that, and she will do something unthinkable.

TVGuide.com: How will the dynamic between Bonnie and Caroline [Candice Accola] change after what happened during the premiere's final scene?
Graham: Caroline's always been the chatty, blonde, silly frenemy, and now that that's changed. It's left them all in a vulnerable place, especially Caroline. Bonnie wouldn't ever just cut anyone off for no reason. If they were really not going to be friends anymore, it would have to be because of something Caroline did. No matter what Caroline is, it would have to be something awful. Other than that, Bonnie is pretty accepting of the fact that her friends are a little different. I think Elena choosing a vampire is just as strange as Bonnie being a witch, personally.

TVGuide.com: Will Caroline finally figure out that her friends are "different"?
Graham: I think there are certain characters that will have no idea about this secret the town has and there are people that are going to work to cover it up. Then there are people that are going to uncover every secret and figure everything out and not know what to do with it. Caroline is going to have to find out something. She's going to have to figure out what's going on.

TVGuide.com: Will Bonnie get a love interest — perhaps a cute warlock boyfriend?
Graham: She's definitely focused on her own abilities. But I do think it could happen. It happened last season with [Ben McKittrick], even though he ended up being a vampire jerk, but that's OK because most guys are. But hopefully she'll have a deep connection with a guy, because right now she doesn't really have a connection with any of the guys on the show. The biggest connection she has is with Damon — and it's not a positive one.

Ian Somerhalder talks 'Vampire Diaries' Season 2 with Entertainment Weekly

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Congratulations on Damon being named the ultimate Sexy Beast.
IAN SOMERHALDER: [Laughs] That is so cool.

What would you like to say to the people who voted for you?
Thank you, thank you, thank you. It makes you realize the dedication of the fans, how much fun they’re having and how much fun they make us have. It’s the fans who are making the success of the show happen. We can’t thank them enough. We’re just doing the acting leg of it. Season 2 is starting [Sept. 9, 8 p.m. ET, The CW], and we’re gonna try not to suck. Wow, that’s a terrible pun. Let me reword that. You finish the first season of the show, and everyone worked their asses off, and the season went really well, and people liked the show. But then season 2 comes up, and you realize, whoa, we have more of a responsibility now. The heat is really on now. We cannot do a bad job. So, we are committed to making this a better year of television than last year. So that’s what I want to tell everyone: “Thank you, and literally, we’ll try not to suck.” [Laughs]

We know from promos that Katherine [Nina Dobrev as the vampire lover who essentially turned the brothers in 1864] says she’s returned for Stefan and never loved Damon. What can you tease about season 2?
Poor Damon. Katherine comes back, and it’s the chicken or the egg thing. In the story, Katherine obviously came before Damon, and Damon learned a lot of his antics from Katherine and then 150 years of cynicism. When I watch Nina be Katherine, it’s crazy, the similarity that you see between Katherine and Damon. She starts wreaking havoc in a very similar way that for most of season 1 Damon wreaked havoc — because he wanted something. You’re gonna see Damon in a way in which you haven’t necessarily seen him before dealing with Katherine and what happens after so many years of longing and wanting to be with someone, being hurt and let down in that extreme manner. It’s a lot of fun watching Katherine and how powerful and manipulative and sexy and crazy she is. It’s a lot of fun to play. It’s brutal for me. [In classic Damon delivery] Damon doesn’t always get what he wants now, which is boring for Ian, but great for the story.

After the show premiered last fall, you told us that you used to be jealous of Josh Holloway for the things he got to say and do as Sawyer on Lost. Now Damon is that character. What do you think it is about him that draws fans in?
I only know what I love about him: Though he may be doing things that are off our moral compass, Damon loves what he’s doing, and he’s enjoying the hell out of his life, even despite the amount of pain and anger that he has inside of him. A lot of the world has a lot of pain and anger, and it’s fun to watch someone who’s learned how to take their pain and make it fun. [Exec producers] Kevin [Williamson] and Julie [Plec] have assembled a phenomenal writing team. When I watch the episodes, I don’t see Damon as me, because Damon is such a specific, strong character. It has nothing to do with me. It’s the way it’s written down on the page.

I recently spoke with Kevin and Julie for EW’s Fall TV preview issue [on stands Sept. 10], and he said something that I wanted to float by you: According to him, it’s a blessing when an actor is asked to be shirtless in a scene on The Vampire Diaries because of the heat in Atlanta. Is that how you look at it?
At this point, why not? Literally. Let me tell you something. I love the South. I’m from the South. I’m a Southern boy. You experience temperatures here that one just doesn’t understand until one is actually geographically here. I am watching our crew members melting like snowmen. It’s insane. When we are in wardrobe and it’s 100 degrees, with 60, 70, 80 percent humidity, you get this heat index and it just sticks to you. So yeah, why not? It is easier just to have your shirt off. I walk around set with it off half the time anyway now, so we might as well shoot it on camera. I’m imagining this isn’t gonna last much longer, but it is summer in Georgia, baby. That’s what you get.

Well, congratulations again, and good luck with season 2. I hope it doesn’t suck. I’m sure it will not.
[Laughs] If it doesn’t suck, I’m sure I’ll talk to you again soon. If it does suck, then I’ll know because you’re not gonna call me back.

Ian Somerhalder and Michael Trevino Interview with Collider

During an interview to promote the new season of their popular show, co-stars Ian Somerhalder and Michael Trevino hinted at what’s coming up for their characters and what fans can look forward to.

Question: Ian, what hints can you give about what’s coming up for Damon in Season 2?

Ian: I do know that when Damon finds out that it was not Elena that he kissed, he’s going to blow his top. He’s not going to be very happy about it. Also, by virtue of the fact that there are other supernatural elements coming to town, Damon is going to have to make a decision and figure out whether he can work with Stefan to protect what they love, their way of life and all the things that come with it.

Michael, what can you say about the evolution of your character this season?

Michael: I don’t know much. One big thing is that there’s Uncle Mason. Mason Lockwood is a younger, hipper brother of Mayor Lockwood (Robert Pralgo), Tyler’s dad, and he comes to town. He takes Tyler under his wing and will probably be there for awhile to explain to him why he lashes out all the time and has this rage. He’ll give reasons to that and school him on the Lockwood ancestry from 1864, the werewolf gene, where that came from and why they have it. Somebody will probably turn into a werewolf, at some point. It’s going to be a process. We’re not going to show all our cards right away.

Will Tyler be a villain?

Michael: Yes. Tyler was always a bully and a prick, but now that he has this supernatural ability, he’ll be a villain. Yes, definitely. You can’t just have Damon around, kicking people’s asses and being a punk. If they can write for me as well as they write for Damon, then it will be fun.

Ian, if you could choose, what era would you like to see Damon flashback to?

Ian: I was in the ‘80s, but I was so young. My brother and sister were ‘80s kids. They partied in the ‘80s. I would rather see Damon in the late ‘60s, early ‘70s. I would love to see that, and that’s why we’re so lucky for this show. We can do these flashbacks from the 1860’s, all the way up until now. That’s so many decades, and so many influential political, environmental and cultural issues and booms that were happening.

I always said it would be so awesome, if we got the time and money to do it, to see Damon at a Rolling Stones concert, front and center, wearing some bad-ass ‘70s outfit, or even in the exact same thing he wears now because he hasn’t changed since about the ‘50s. How cool would it be to be able to use stock footage of some unbelievable Rolling Stones concert, and having Damon sitting there, scoping stuff out with two beautiful women on either side? I just think it would be so amazing to see Damon in that situation.

Michael, do you feel like this is the moment to shine for the werewolf?

Michael: Yeah, that’s why I’m hoping we’re different. With Twilight, their werewolves are big and CG. And then, with True Blood, there’s are real wolves. I think we’re going to have real wolves.

Have you always known the origin of your character?

Michael: I did. Before I even auditioned, I read as much of the books as I could and I saw that Tyler ends up turning into a werewolf, way down the line. In Season 1, I didn’t know that we weren’t really going to tap into it as much, so it can’t get any worse than that. Season 2 is going to be my season. It’s going to be big for Tyler. So, yeah, I knew all along. I don’t know how they’re going to do it or what we’re going to do, but hopefully it’s better than True Blood or Twilight.

Are you excited?

Michael: Yeah, I’m excited. I really am. But, I’m also nervous. I’ve got to bring it ‘cause they’re going to compare me to that Taylor [Lautner] kid, and if I don’t bring it, I’m just going to get crushed.

Ian, what is Damon like to play, as an actor?

Ian: Damon puts me into some weird places. This is a season to see him scared. He will be. That I promise you.

Are you more nervous for Season 2, since there’s so much expectation now for the show?

Ian: Absolutely! We were talking about that at a meeting in Atlanta, during a table read for the second episode. We had a pow wow with the cast and I said, “Look, guys, the second season is our defining moment. We have to promise ourselves, the network, the studio and the fans that this is going to be a better year of storytelling and acting than it was last year.” That’s what we need to do because we can’t let everyone down, and we should try to exceed and make it better.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES returns for Season 2 on The CW on September 9th
